This year, Christmas will be different in Como. The Alessandro Volta Foundation, in collaboration with other cultural associations of the area, will organize a ‘Green Christmas’ which will involve a series of events in different venues throughout the historic centre. A way to make us all feel closer one to each other, immersed in the tradition of Christmas, in complete safety and to encourage Christmas shopping with unannounced appointments in 11 junction points of pedestrian flowsspread over 8 afternoons from 3:30 pm to 6.30 pm from 12th December to 6th January.
The calendar will become ‘alive’ and will consist of small events lasting up to 15 minutes with over 250 entertainments involving almost 200 ‘artists’ thanks to the collaboration of 18 local organizations.
The Green Christmas is meant for families who, while strolling along the historic centre streets, will feel immersed in a large village populated by Elves riding bicycles, Santa Claus jugglers, travelling historic city bands, choristers and musicians of the ‘Giuditta Pasta’ Academy, the Zampognari (pipers) and the traditional FregaMusun from Brianza who, from one street to another, will create a varied soundtrack made up of reinterpreted traditional songs and music. Then a special appointment with the champions of Calcio Como and Basket Cantù.
The ‘Green Christmas’ event will promote six sustainable actions that will involve and directly challenge visitors for the entire event. Good practices for living more sustainably whilepreserving the environment. Actions will be measured so that their practical effect can then be shared. It will be possible to give energy to the lights that illuminate the monuments and feed the “green” acoustic systems; you can listen to experts who will tell ‘green’ stories and express ‘green’ wishes. Particular attention will be paid to the creation of costumes made from eco-friendly fabrics worn by the artists. The task will be entrusted to the LaboratorioCou(L)tureMigrante, a social entrepreneurship project that involves women and men seeking asylum from different parts of the world and residing in Como. Moreover, eco-friendly giftswill be available for those who will get involved in the stories, but we are not going to reveal everything now to leave more surprises for you!
Impossible to miss all these events for those who will arrive in the city.
All information will be available on the web. In addition, in the city’scafes and restaurants you will find guide maps containing all the scheduled events: from exhibitions to initiatives for visitors.
Even in the event of a lockdown, the city’s places and spaces will be depicted so that you will have the opportunity to experience online and directly from your living room, the same events organised for the ‘Green Christmas’, as if the city ‘entered’ our homes.
