A journey through art and tradition, history and craftsmanship

Cos'è

poster_CdB26The nativity scene is the distinctive and characteristic element of an almost thousand-year old Christmas tradition that has its roots in the 12th century with Saint Francis, the first advocate of the representation of the miniature nativity.

Like every year the Città dei Balocchi wants to enhance the history and importance of this custom by dedicating ample space to it in the Church of San Giacomo. Here several artists will exhibit their nativity scenes which, while maintaining their original meaning, often represent variations on the most classic themes in terms of materials and artistic inspiration. In fact, both examples of more traditional compositions and more personal interpretations can be admired. In any case there will be creations for all tastes, in a space that combines history and art, craftsmanship and tradition.

This year, the nativity scene exhibition reaches its 19th edition thanks to the availability of the Cathedral Church, which provides the Church of San Giacomo and thanks to all the enthusiasts who for so many years have made this event special by generously lending their works, rich in creative flair, elegance and simplicity.

There are those who love to refer to the classic style and those who instead prefer artistic and personal interpretations: the true protagonists who share with all visitors the passion with which these nativity scenes were created.
An important collaboration that is renewed this year is that of the one with the Ethnographic Museum of Saint Petersburg, which some nativity scenes in the exhibition will come from.
